Prices, Quantities, Timing and Participation in Greenhouse Gas Control Policy

چکیده
Following a decade of international meetings and negotiations, more than 160 nations signaled their commitment to address the problem of climate change by initialing the Kyoto Protocol in December 1997. The Protocol requires industrialized “Annex I” countries to reduce their total greenhouse gas emissions by an average of roughly five percent compared to 1990 levels; developing countries are not required to meet quantitative emission goals, though all signatories to the 1992 Climate Convention have certain obligations to measure and report emissions and to encourage more climatefriendly activities. Implementation of the Kyoto targets was discussed at the November 1998 meetings in Buenos Aires. However, questions remain in the US and other countries about whether and when the Kyoto Protocol will be ratified and meaningfully implemented.

Impact of US Energy Policy on Crude Oil Prices
The price of Iranian crude oil in different markets depends on the price of US crude oil. In recent months, the oil and gas industry and the sale of Iranian crude oil and the co-operation and investments of oil companies operating in the field of oil field development have halted. Therefore, examining the effects of US government policies on the oil market is very effective. The most important ...
متن کاملSoil organic carbon sequestration in cotton production systems of the southeastern United States: a review.
Past agricultural management practices have contributed to the loss of soil organic carbon (SOC) and emission of greenhouse gases (e.g., carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide). Fortunately, however, conservation-oriented agricultural management systems can be, and have been, developed to sequester SOC, improve soil quality, and increase crop productivity. Our objectives were to (i) review literature...
متن کاملEconomic Freedom: A No-Regrets Strategy for Reducing Global Energy Consumption
Economic freedom is known to have a profound effect on the efficient allocation of resources. Without subsidies, tariffs, and other government interventions, economic activity operates in the most efficient manner because of competitive pressures to produce more with fewer inputs. This means that energy use per unit of production is decreased with the presence of free markets (Graph 2). Free ma...
متن کاملCanada’s efforts towards greenhouse gas emission reduction: a case study on the limits of voluntary action and subsidies
Canada has committed internationally to several agreements to limit climate change, most recently by ratifying the Kyoto Protocol in 2002. However, its domestic climate change policy is not reflective of these international commitments. In particular, federal government climate change policy over the last decade has emphasised noncompulsory policies such as voluntarism, information provision, a...
متن کاملThe Effect of Natural Gas Prices on Gas Consumption by Iranian Industries
Natural gas has an advantageous position compared to other energy carriers in policy making of energy consumption due to its many advantages, especially in terms of environmental indicators. In Iran, the industrial sector is considered as one of the important sectors of natural gas consumption. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between natural gas prices and indu...
